Congratulations to Ava DuVernay who now has her own ice cream flavor with Ben and Jerry’s and it’s perfectly titled: Lights! Caramel! Action!
She is the first Black woman to ever grace the brand’s pints.
Lights! Caramel! Action! is made up of vanilla ice cream with salted caramel and graham cracker swirls and pieces of chocolate chip cookie dough. It will also be available in both dairy and non-dairy almond milk versions
The reasoning behind DuVernay’s flavor combo is simple. “Because I love them and I eat them in real life. First of all, chocolate chip cookie dough. What more needs to be said?” DuVernay told People.
What’s even great about this collaboration is that this flavor is not a limited flavor but has been officially added to Ben & Jerry’s flavor line-up. It will be featured across the United States at its franchised Scoop Shops as well as in stores.

Lights! Caramel! Action! will start shipping nationwide in January 2023. And proceeds from the sale of that particular flavoe will benefit her non-profit ARRAY Alliance.
Through the social impact work of ARRAY Alliance, DuVernay’s mission is to amplify and elevate the work of artists of color and women directors, create inclusive film sets, provide grants, mentorship and education for people from underrepresented communities who want to work in the film industry. Founded in 2011 by DuVernay, ARRAY is a Peabody Award-winning multi-platform arts and social impact collective dedicated to narrative change. The organization catalyzes its work through a quartet of mission-driven entities: the film distribution arm ARRAY Releasing, the content company ARRAY Filmworks, the programming and production hub ARRAY Creative Campus and the non-profit group ARRAY Alliance.
