Magnolia Pictures has secured U.S. rights to “Omni Loop,” the indie sci-fi film starring Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”) and Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds”). The film is slated for a day-and-date release on September 20.
Directed by Bernardo Britto (“Jacqueline Argentine”), “Omni Loop” made its world premiere at this year’s SXSW film festival. The story centers around Zoya Lowe (Parker), a quantum physicist trapped in a time loop, facing the terrifying reality of a black hole growing in her chest with only a week left to live. Unknown to her doctors and family, Zoya has lived this week countless times before. Her monotonous cycle is disrupted when she meets Paula (Edebiri), a gifted student. Together, they embark on a mission to save Zoya and uncover the secrets of time travel.
The film boasts a stellar cast, including Hannah Pearl Utt (“Cora Bora”), Chris Witaske (“The Bear”), and Carlos Jacott (“Grosse Pointe Blank”). “Omni Loop” is a collaboration between 2AM and Lou Filmproduction, produced by Benjamin Cohen, Patrick Donovan, and David Hinojosa, with Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler, Christine D’Souza Gelb, and Kevin Rowe serving as executive producers.
Eamonn Bowles, co-CEO of Magnolia Pictures, expressed his excitement about the film, stating, “Mary-Louise Parker and Ayo Edebiri are spellbinding in Bernardo Britto’s terrifically twisty film. We look forward to releasing this September.”
Director Britto added, “It’s my instinct to say something weird or funny here, but maybe sometimes it’s best to just be sincere. I love this movie, I love the people I got to make it with, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the great team at Magnolia to get it out into the world.”
The acquisition deal was negotiated by Magnolia’s SVP of Acquisitions, John Von Thaden, alongside WME Independent and 2AM representing the filmmakers.
