After a 30-year hiatus, Eddie Murphy is reprising his iconic role as Axel Foley in “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley,” set to debut on Netflix, Summer 2024. The long-awaited fourth installment brings back familiar faces, including Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

In an exclusive interview with Empire, Bruckheimer praises Murphy’s unpredictable brilliance on set, promising a stellar performance that harks back to the ’80s. Directed by Mark Molloy, the film’s synopsis follows Axel’s return to Beverly Hills to protect his estranged daughter (Taylour Paige) from a conspiracy involving deadly cartels and the police.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon also star in the film. Bruckheimer emphasizes the film’s emotional depth, stating, “No matter how funny it is, how much great action it has, it’s all about the heartstrings.”

Test screenings have generated positive reactions, with some claiming it surpasses the original. The nostalgic route, akin to “Top Gun: Maverick,” features the original cast, the same score, and improved action.

Despite years of delays and script challenges, Netflix acquired the project in 2019, making it a highly anticipated mainstream release. Production ran from August 29th to October 31st, 2022, and despite initial setbacks, the film is slated for a 2024 release.
