There’s no shortage of short films and episodics out there. What’s missing is somewhere to watch them: a room, a crowd, a reason to show up. Most of this work just lives online, waiting to be found by an algorithm that’s rarely looking. We wanted to build that room ourselves.
That’s Keep It Short Sundays (K.I.S.S.) — a new night from BLEX Media centered on short films, good food, and community.
The first one happens Sunday, July 12th, from 5 to 9 PM at Shanklin Hall in Adams Morgan. It’s free with RSVP, with food and drinks available if you want to make a full evening of it.
The whole idea is this: gather people in a room, put on films and shows that deserve to be seen, and let a crowd experience them together the way they were meant to be watched. And maybe some talk back around it. That’s it. No panels, no pitch decks — just short-form work getting its moment in front of real people.
Shanklin Hall makes for a fitting setting. The Black-owned restaurant and social club has become a go-to spot in Adams Morgan for its relaxed, art-filled atmosphere, vinyl records, live music, and a menu known for dishes like sweet soy and ginger glazed chicken and crispy egg rolls. It’s a space built around community and culture without the barrier of a membership — which lines up well with what BLEX Media is trying to create with this event.
This first K.I.S.S. is a test run. If it resonates, we’re hoping to turn it into a monthly gathering.
We’re also using this as a chance to grow our lineup. If you’re a filmmaker sitting on something you want a room full of people to see, submissions are open, click here to submit.
