The bets are off—Bookie won’t be cashing in for a third season.
Max has officially canceled the Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay-created comedy after two seasons. The series, which debuted on the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer in November 2023, followed veteran bookmaker Danny Colavito (played by Sebastian Maniscalco) as he navigated the shifting landscape of legalized sports betting in Los Angeles. Its second season premiered in December 2024, wrapping up its 16-episode run in January 2025.
“For two seasons, creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting,” a Max spokesperson said in a statement. “We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh-out-loud comedy.”
Joining Maniscalco in the cast were Omar Dorsey as Ray Ballard, Andrea Anders as Sandra, Vanessa Ferlito as Lorraine Colavito, Jorge Garcia as Hector, Maxim Swinton as Anthony, Rob Corddry as Walt Dinty, and Selina Kaye as Janelle. Recurring players included Arnetia Walker, Toby Huss, and Dale Dickey, while an impressive lineup of guest stars—Charlie Sheen, Ray Romano, Laraine Newman, and Zach Braff—popped up throughout the show’s run.
Lorre and Bakay executive produced Bookie alongside Maniscalco and Judi Marmel for Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
While Bookie marks the end of this particular collaboration, Maniscalco has continued to build his acting portfolio, appearing in films like Green Book, The Irishman, and Tag, and voicing Spike in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In a previous interview, he spoke about his growing confidence as an actor, noting that hearing Lorre and Bakay laugh at his takes on set reassured him that he was on the right track.
With Bookie now closing its books, Max continues to refine its comedy slate, recently making similar decisions with shows like Velma.
