Brian Tyree Henry Joins, Jayme Lawson and Jeffrey Wright Return for ‘The Batman: Part II’

Director Matt Reeves continues his social media casting reveal, adding new faces to an already stacked 2027 sequel.

Director Matt Reeves has been on a casting announcement spree this week, taking to X to officially reveal the growing roster for The Batman: Part II, and the lineup is shaping up to be one of the most impressive in recent superhero film history.

Brian Tyree Henry, widely known for FX’s Atlanta and his voice work in the Spider-Verse franchise, has been confirmed as a new addition, while Jayme Lawson returns as Gotham City Mayor Bella Real and Jeffrey Wright reprises his role as Commissioner James Gordon. None of the three had their specific roles disclosed by Reeves at the time of announcement.

Also returning are Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oz Cobb fresh off HBO’s The Penguin. Gil Perez-Abraham is back as Officer Martinez as well.

On the new additions front, Scarlett Johansson, first reported to be in negotiations back in December, has been officially confirmed, with Reeves posting a gif from her 2013 film Under the Skin alongside the caption “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome.” Sebastian Stan is also confirmed and is expected to portray Harvey Dent, while Game of Thrones veteran Charles Dance is set to play Harvey’s father. German actor Sebastian Koch, not previously reported by the trades, was also announced without a character reveal.

Reeves has been open about his vision for the sequel, noting that while the first film was heavily focused on Batman as a figure, Part II will dig deeper into Bruce Wayne as a man. “I never wanted to lose Rob at the center of these stories,” Reeves has said, adding that the follow-up will explore territory that “has never really been done in a movie before.”

The Batman: Part II, co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is currently filming in the U.K. and is set for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
