Anika Noni Rose, William Jackson Harper to Star in Broadway Play 'Uncle Vanya'

Lincoln Center Theater is gearing up for a star-studded production of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, set to premiere on Broadway in spring 2024. The cast includes renowned actors such as Steve Carell, making his Broadway debut in the titular role, alongside William Jackson Harper, Anika Noni Rose, and others.

The cast features Carell as the depressive Vanya, Harper as Astrov, and Tony winner Jayne Houdyshell as Mama Voinitski. Mia Katigbak stars as as Marina, Alfred Molina joins as Alexander Serabryakov, and Tony nominee Alison Pill as Sonya, with Tony winner Noni Rose as Yelena.

The play, scheduled to begin previews on April 2, 2024, and officially open on April 24, explores the lives of Sonya and her uncle Vanya, who have dedicated themselves to managing the family farm. Their isolation is disrupted when Sonya’s ailing father (Molina) and his wife (Rose) move in, leading to a summer of love, desires, resentments, and a confrontation with the ghosts of their unlived lives.

Heidi Schreck, known for “What the Constitution Means to Me,” provides a new translation for the production, directed by Lila Neugebauer. The creative team includes Mimi Lien for sets, Kaye Voyce for costumes, Lap Chi Chu and Elizabeth Harper for lighting, and Mikhail Fiksel and Beth Lake for sound.
