Caleb McLaughlin and Nnamdi Asomugha are set to join Rachel McAdams in Netflix’s upcoming untitled AI thriller, directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Jeff Daniels and Joel Edgerton are also attached to the project, which continues to build out an increasingly high-profile ensemble as anticipation grows around the tightly guarded film.
Netflix secured the package last October and is aiming to begin production this summer. The project is being produced by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman through their T-Street Productions banner, alongside Gordon-Levitt and Kieran Fitzgerald, who co-wrote the script and also serve as producers.
Netflix declined to comment.
Plot details remain under wraps
Story details are being kept tightly confidential, though the film is centered on artificial intelligence. Gordon-Levitt, who has been vocal about the societal impact of AI, co-wrote the screenplay with Fitzgerald (‘Snowden’). Natasha Lyonne also shares a story credit on the project.
The film marks another collaboration for T-Street Productions, with Johnson and Bergman continuing their slate of prestige genre projects at Netflix.
Cast updates and recent credits
For Jeff Daniels, the film marks a return to Netflix following his 2025 limited series ‘A Man in Full’. Joel Edgerton also returns after earning strong critical attention for ‘Train Dreams’, which premiered at Sundance before being acquired by Netflix and went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Caleb McLaughlin comes off the final season of Netflix’s flagship hit ‘Stranger Things’, which concluded over the holidays. He also recently led Sony Animation’s ‘GOAT’.
Nnamdi Asomugha’s recent work includes ‘The Knife’ and ‘The Good Nurse’.
Rachel McAdams, meanwhile, leads the project following a career that spans ‘Mean Girls’, ‘The Notebook’, ‘Spotlight’—which earned her an Academy Award nomination—and Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ films.
Production timeline
According to Production Weekly, filming is expected to begin on May 4, 2026, in Belgrade, Serbia, with additional shooting locations including Montenegro. Production is currently slated to wrap in 2027, suggesting a likely release window sometime in 2027, depending on post-production.
Netflix has not yet announced an official release date.
