CBS has announced the highly anticipated spinoff of The Good Wife, Elsbeth, has been given a series order. The series will center around fan-favorite character Elsbeth Tascioni, played by Carrie Preston. Joining Preston in the series regular cast are Wendell Pierce, who will play Captain Wagner, and Carra Patterson, who will take on the role of Officer Kaya Blanke.
The synopsis reads: After her successful career in Chicago, Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), an astute but unconventional attorney, utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.
Elsbeth is produced by CBS Studios, with Jonathan Tolins serving as showrunner and executive producer, alongside writers and executive producers Robert King and Michelle King. The former also directs, while Liz Glotzer from the duo’s King Size Productions serves as executive producer.
The franchise is created by Robert and Michelle King, who have won multiple awards for their work on the series, including Emmy Awards for writing and producing. Elsbeth is the latest addition to the Good Wife franchise, following the success of The Good Fight, which has been praised for its timely and relevant storylines, diverse cast, and strong female characters.
The Matlock reboot and a comedy from the Wayans family were also picked up for the 2023/24 season, in addition to previously ordered Tracker, starring Justin Hartley. However, the network has not specified the number of episodes for each series due to the ongoing writers’ strike.
