Two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo has joined the cast of The Servant, a transgressive psychological thriller from acclaimed filmmaker Francis Lee.
The film will also star Nicholas Hoult, Noah Jupe, and Emma Corrin. The project marks Lee’s first feature in six years following acclaimed dramas Ammonite and God’s Own Country.
Set in 1950s New York, The Servant follows Tony (Hoult), an entitled British man who relocates to a luxurious apartment overlooking Central Park, only to find himself caught in a dangerous psychological battle with his manipulative manservant Barrett, played by Domingo.
The film is described as a reimagining of The Servant, the classic 1963 psychological drama directed by Joseph Losey from a screenplay by Harold Pinter. The original film became known for its provocative themes surrounding class, sexuality, and power dynamics, with Dirk Bogarde delivering a celebrated performance as the calculating servant.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho has previously cited the original film as an inspiration for Parasite, and Lee’s modern reinterpretation is said to bring its own tense sexual politics and contemporary edge to the material.
Production is expected to begin in January 2027.
The film reunites several high-profile production companies, including Blueprint Pictures, Film4, and mk2 Films, which will handle international sales at the 2026 Cannes market.
Domingo next stars in Disclosure Day from Steven Spielberg, while Hoult will soon appear as Lex Luthor in Superman. Corrin is also set to lead Pride and Prejudice for Netflix.
