Emmy and Tony-Award winner Courtney B. Vance has recently been announced to join the cast of the upcoming Lilo & Stitch live action for Disney. In the upcoming film, Vance will play the role of Cobra Bubbles, a former CIA agent turned social worker who still works for the government in an undercover capacity. Originally voiced by Ving Rhames in the animated film and various TV projects, the character was also voiced by Terrence C. Carson, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Richard Epcar.

The live-action movie, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp for Disney+, features an ensemble cast including Billy Magnussen, Zach Galifianakis, and Maia Kealoha. Kealoha has been cast as Lilo, becoming the young actress’s first major role.

It is yet to be confirmed how the sequel’s plot will differ from the original 2002 animated movie, which followed the heartwarming tale of the unlikely friendship between a young girl named Lilo and an alien creature named Stitch, who was created to be a destructive force.

Lilo & Stitch live adaptation has been in development for several years, and Disney has been working hard to bring the project to fruition. The live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch has been written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright from a previous draft by Mike Van Waes. Producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will lead the project for Rideback, with Ryan Halprin serving as executive producer for the company. With Vance’s impressive credentials and the talented team behind the project, Lilo & Stitch is sure to be a hit for Disney+.

The original 2002 animated film, directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, was a box office success after grossing over $273M worldwide. It garnered critical acclaim and captured the hearts of audiences with its touching storyline set in Hawaii. The movie spawned several sequels and spin-off TV shows, making it one of Disney’s most successful franchises.
