Damson Idris and Anamaria Vartolomei are set to lead Miles & Juliette, a jazz-infused period romance that dives into the lesser-known love story between two young artists on the cusp of becoming icons—Miles Davis and Juliette Gréco.
Directed by Love & Mercy filmmaker Bill Pohlad, the film follows 22-year-old Miles Davis (played by Idris) during a transformative 1949 trip to Paris, where he meets and falls for French singer and actress Juliette Gréco (Vartolomei), a rising star in the bohemian Left Bank scene. What begins as a fleeting affair quickly becomes a deep emotional and creative connection—one that leaves an imprint long after their time together ends.
The script comes from Zora Howard, the Pulitzer Prize finalist behind STEW and Premature, bringing her poetic storytelling to a tale rooted in art, love, and identity. Xavier Dolan also joins the cast in an undisclosed role.
The film is a collaboration between Pohlad’s River Road Entertainment (12 Years a Slave, Brokeback Mountain) and Mick Jagger’s Jagged Films, with the support of the Miles Davis Estate. Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce alongside Pohlad and Kim Roth (Mudbound).
“Miles Davis is inarguably one of the most influential and important musicians of the 20th century,” said Jagger in a statement. “It’s an honor to help tell a piece of his story that’s so personal, so human.”
Pohlad added, “Though much of my work has centered on music, I’ve always been drawn to the intimacy and complexity of a great love story. With Miles & Juliette, I feel incredibly fortunate to explore both.”
Helping bring that emotional depth to life is Grammy-winning musician Robert Glasper, who will compose and produce the film’s music. His genre-defying sound—rooted in jazz, but layered with soul, R&B, and hip-hop—feels like a perfect match for a film about two creative spirits whose love was as bold and complicated as their art.
Behind the camera, Arnaud Potier (Dreamin’ Wild) returns as cinematographer, with Dan Weil (The Bourne Identity) serving as production designer to reimagine post-war Paris in all its messy beauty.
Sales for Miles & Juliette will launch at this year’s Cannes Film Market through Goodfellas, while CAA Media Finance is handling North American rights.
