A24 is set to make its mark in the world of movie musicals with “Dicks: The Musical.” The studio recently released the film’s first trailer, which has been generating buzz due to its star-studded cast and unique premise.
Scheduled for release on September 29, “Dicks: The Musical” follows the story of Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp, who not only star in the movie but also wrote the screenplay. They play antagonistic businessmen who make a surprising discovery – they are long-lost twins. Motivated by this revelation, the twins devise a mischievous plan to reunite their divorced parents, portrayed by Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally.
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion adds to the film’s allure with her feature film acting debut in a significant role. She stars as the twins’ boss, a confident and powerful businesswoman. The trailer showcases her in various captivating scenes, including one where she delivers a bold rap:
“Y’all are just servants, this is my palace, built it brick by brick
So get in a line, drop on your knees, and suck my fing d”
Megan Thee Stallion’s character also takes an unexpected and bold turn, as she is seen leading a group of men on leashes.
The film originated from a stage musical and screenplay titled “F***ing Identical Twins,” created by Jackson and Sharp, who previously starred in the two-man show in Manhattan back in 2014. The film features original songs by Sharp, Jackson, and composer Karl Saint Lucy. Directed by Larry Charles, known for his work on “Borat” and “Seinfeld,” “Dicks: The Musical” promises a unique blend of comedy and music.
“Dicks: The Musical” joins A24’s fall release lineup, which includes highly anticipated films such as “Medusa Deluxe,” “Priscilla,” “The Iron Claw,” and “The Zone of Interest,” offering audiences a diverse array of cinematic experiences.
With its star-studded cast, captivating premise, and promise of humor and music, “Dicks: The Musical” is a notable addition to A24’s repertoire. Check out the trailer below to catch a glimpse of the excitement in store.
