The Mickey Mouse Club is coming back. Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a reboot of the beloved variety series, with production set to begin this month in Los Angeles. The project comes from Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind Hulu’s The Kardashians.
The new cast of Mouseketeers includes 11 young performers: Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Hudson Stone, all of whom star in Disney’s upcoming Camp Rock 3. Scarlett London Diviney (The Lion King), Varonica Mitchell, Michael Cash (Black Rabbit), Yonas Kibreab (Elio), Erianthe Akaata (Young Rock), Kauani, Scarlett Grace Petty and Carter Barnes have also been cast.
Disney described the reboot as “a showcase for today’s most talented young performers, where music, innovation, and self-expression take center stage.”
Created by Walt Disney himself, The Mickey Mouse Club began as a stage show in the 1920s before its original ABC run from 1955 to 1959. It was rebooted as a syndicated series from 1977 to 1979 before the Disney Channel revived it in 1989. That run, which ended in 1996, became the franchise’s most celebrated iteration and launched the careers of some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell and JC Chasez. It was briefly revived again in 2017 as Club Mickey Mouse for digital platforms.
The pilot is executive produced by Fulwell co-founder Ben Winston, Ashley Edens and Emma Conway and Dave Piendak.
