Disney+ Unveils Trailer for 'Doctor Who' With Ncuti Gatwa as 15th Doctor

Disney+ has unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for its upcoming series reboot of the timeless sci-fi adventure, “Doctor Who.” Lead by “Sex Education” star Ncuti Gatwa as the titular time traveler and Millie Gibson as his trusty companion Ruby Sunday, the trailer offers a glimpse into a thrilling journey through time and space. Set to premiere on May 10 exclusively on Disney+, the series will debut globally, except in the U.K., where it will arrive on BBC iPlayer at midnight GMT on May 11.

Joining Gatwa and Gibson are Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma, and Angela Wynter.

The trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse into the adventures awaiting viewers as the 15th Doctor and Ruby traverse through various historical epochs and battle formidable alien adversaries. From the prehistoric era teeming with dinosaurs to the grandeur of Victorian England’s ballrooms, and even a glimpse into a dystopian future, the series promises an exhilarating ride.

Notably, the trailer hints at the incorporation of classic time travel concepts, including the butterfly effect, drawing inspiration from Ray Bradbury’s renowned short story “A Sound of Thunder.” Ruby’s declaration, “…to realize what I am meant to do. I’m going to save the world,” hints at the series’ high-stakes narrative.

Produced by Bad Wolf in collaboration with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC, the series boasts a lineup of esteemed executive producers, including Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter. The new season will showcase episodes directed by Ben Chessell, Jamie Donoughue, Julie Anne Robinson, and Dylan Holmes Williams.

The first two episodes of “Doctor Who” will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting May 10 at 7 p.m. ET, while U.K. audiences can catch the series on BBC iPlayer from May 11.
