Looks like Tracy Morgan’s next TV chapter is getting even stronger—because Erika Alexander is officially on board. The American Fiction and Living Single star has joined the cast of NBC’s untitled comedy pilot, which hails from 30 Rock alums Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and writer Sam Means.
The single-camera comedy centers on Morgan as a former football star who’s fallen from grace and is trying to clean up his image. Alexander will play Monica, his childhood sweetheart from Brooklyn, who also happens to be his ex-wife, co-parent, agent, and business manager. Despite being divorced, she’s still running the show—because, let’s be real, somebody has to keep Reggie (Morgan) in check.

Adding to the mix? Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Arthur Tobin, an award-winning filmmaker who moves into Reggie’s mansion to document his comeback. Sounds like a recipe for hilarious chaos.
Fey, Carlock, and Means are producing alongside Morgan, Eric Gurian, and David Miner. Rhys Thomas (Documentary Now!, Saturday Night Live) is directing the pilot, with Universal Television, Little Stranger, Bevel Gears, and 3 Arts backing the project.
If NBC gives this the full series green light, it’ll be the network’s first comedy pickup of the season—meaning they’re clearly betting on Morgan’s magic.
Alexander stays booked and busy. She’s set to appear in the next season of Apple TV+’s Invasion and was a standout in the Oscar-winning American Fiction. Just last year, she delivered a critically acclaimed performance in Earth Mama.
Of course, TV lovers will always remember her as the iconic Maxine Shaw from Living Single, but her career spans everything from Get Out to Black Lightning and Wu-Tang: An American Saga. Beyond acting, Alexander is making moves as the co-founder of Color Farm Media, which she’s dubbed the “Motown of film, TV, and tech.” She’s also on the board of VoteRunLead, pushing for more diversity in politics and media.
This NBC pilot isn’t Morgan’s only project in the works. He’s also starring in Crutch, a Paramount+ comedy spun off from The Neighborhood. In Crutch, he plays a widower whose quiet Harlem life gets turned upside down when his grown kids move back home. The series boasts a solid cast, including Jermaine Fowler, Adrianna Mitchell, and the always fabulous Jenifer Lewis.
With both Crutch and the NBC comedy on his plate, Morgan is stacking up his TV comeback—and with names like Fey, Carlock, and Alexander in the mix, this could be one to watch. Stay tuned.
