Lifetime continues its tradition of turning real-life stories into gripping television with its fall slate of ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ movies. Leading the charge is ‘Buried Alive and Survived,’ starring Eva Marcille of ‘All The Queens Men’ and Tyler Lepley from ‘Harlem.’
In ‘Buried Alive and Survived,’ Marcille takes on the role of Alicia, a woman whose life takes a horrifying turn when her ex-husband, Victor—played by Lepley—is released from prison. Based on a story by Nigel Campbell, the movie follows Alicia’s harrowing fight for survival after Victor attempts to reconcile, and when she refuses, he buries her alive. Miraculously, Alicia escapes her grave and begins a desperate search for her son, Malcolm, while evading Victor’s relentless pursuit.
The movie is produced by Swirl Films, with Abbey Sibucao, Ron Robinson, and Eric Tomosunas serving as executive producers. The teleplay, written by Gregory Small and Richard Blaney, is directed by Manu Boyer, known for his work on ‘Girl in the Basement.’ ‘Buried Alive and Survived’ premieres on September 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.
This film is one of several new releases under Lifetime’s ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ banner for September. Another notable entry is ‘He Slid Into Her DMs,’ starring Courtney Thorne-Smith (‘Melrose Place,’ ‘Ally McBeal’) and Stella Gregg (‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,’ ‘Trust Me’).
In ‘He Slid Into Her DMs,’ inspired by true events, 17-year-old Berni, portrayed by Gregg, appears to have it all—popularity, a promising future, and a burgeoning social media presence. However, her seemingly perfect life unravels as she faces betrayal, a failing online career, and a broken relationship. When Berni’s online interactions with a fan, Mason, take a dark turn, her mother Leah, played by Thorne-Smith, is forced to make a tragic decision that shatters Berni’s public persona.
This movie marks the directorial debut of Alicia Coppola (‘Jericho,’ ‘Why Women Kill’) and will premiere on Saturday, September 28 at 8/7c. ‘He Slid Into Her DMs’ is produced by Cartel Pictures, with Stan Spry and Eric Woods as executive producers. The screenplay is written by Erica Lane, Christina Kelly Holmes, and Lydia Genner.
Lifetime’s fall lineup promises to deliver intense, drama-filled stories that continue to captivate audiences with tales ripped straight from the headlines.
