In FX’s latest offering, “Class of ’09,” viewers are in for a thrilling ride.

The limited series, created by Tom Rob Smith and led by Brian Tyree Henry and Kate Mara follows a group of FBI agents at three distinct points in time as they navigate a rapidly changing U.S. criminal justice system, now infused with artificial intelligence. Spanning multiple decades and told across interweaving timelines, the series examines the nature of justice, humanity and the choices we make that ultimately define our lives and legacy.

With themes of justice, humanity, and the choices that define us, the show promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of some of the most pressing issues of our time. The series thriller also stars Sepideh Moafi, Brian J. Smith, Jon Jon Briones, Brooke Smith, Jake McDorman, and Rosalind Eleazar.

The highly anticipated eight-episode series is set to premiere on May 10, 2023, with two episodes debuting on Hulu in the United States, Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories. After the premiere, new episodes will be released on a weekly basis.

Henry stars as Tayo Michaels, a former insurance executive turned FBI agent who seeks to bring radical change within the Bureau. He proves his worth by accepting dangerous and challenging assignments and becomes one of the top agents. With his newfound power, he aims to transform the system.

Kate Mara portrays Ashley Poet, a psychiatric nurse who joins the FBI to honor her mother’s legacy. Despite lacking experience in law enforcement, she brings compassion and empathy to the job. But as she navigates the tough world of the FBI, she wonders if she can maintain her values.

Rosalind Eleazar plays Vivienne, a civil rights lawyer who recognizes Tayo’s passion and brilliance. They form a strong team, but their partnership is put to the test.

Brian J. Smith portrays Lennix, born to privilege but determined to forge his own path in life. He falls in love with Poet, and it takes her two decades to realize her feelings for him.

Jon Jon Briones plays Gabriel, a wise and selfless mentor who wants to instill a sense of responsibility and possibility in his trainees. Brooke Smith plays Drew, a former field Agent who was shot by her own team, ending her promising career. She becomes a teacher to guide future agents.

Jake McDorman plays Murphy, a former cop who joined the FBI seeking a more predictable and thoughtful work environment. He finds the job to be just as unpredictable and chaotic. Sepideh Moafi portrays Hour, a socially awkward but brilliant agent specializing in data analysis. She struggles with her sexual identity and channels her anxiety into her work.

According to Vanity Fair, the series took seven months to film, during which time the cast formed a tight-knit bond, even going so far as to complete high-speed driving tests together. Mara likened the experience to their own version of “Actors Quantico,” referring to the FBI training facility.

“Class of ’09” is produced by FX Productions, with Tom Rob Smith serving as creator and executive producer. Other executive producers include Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Zanne Devine, Jessica Levin, and Joe Robert Cole.
