Peacock Sets August Premiere Date for John Woo’s Remake of ‘The Killer’
Peacock has officially announced the release date for Universal Pictures’ English-language remake of John Woo’s iconic action crime film, The Killer. Fans can look forward to its exclusive premiere on August 23.
The film, a modern reimagining of Woo’s 1989 classic, stars Omar Sy of ‘Lupin’ fame and Nathalie Emmanuel (‘Game of Thrones’). This marks 35 years since the original The Killer, featuring Chow Yun-fat, Danny Lee, and Sally Yeh, captivated audiences with its intense narrative of an assassin’s final mission to fund eye surgery for a singer he accidentally blinded.

In this contemporary adaptation, Emmanuel takes on the role of Zee, a feared contract killer known as “the Queen of the Dead” within Paris’ criminal underworld. The plot thickens when Zee, ordered by her handler Finn (played by Sam Worthington), refuses to assassinate a blind young woman. This act of defiance sets off a chain of events, pitting her against former allies and a relentless detective, portrayed by Omar Sy.
Directed once again by John Woo, The Killer is written by Brian Helgeland. The also stars Diana Silvers (‘Space Force’), Eric Cantona (‘Elizabeth’), Tchéky Karyo (‘GoldenEye’), and Grégory Montel (‘Call My Agent!’). Producers include Woo himself, Charles Roven, Alex Gartner, and Lori Tilkin deFelice, with Terence Chang and Robin Fisichella serving as executive producers.
IGN has provided an exclusive first look at The Killer, showcasing three official photos that highlight the film’s intense atmosphere and dynamic performances. Emmanuel’s Zee, a lethal assassin, navigates a treacherous path after defying orders to kill Jenn, the blind woman portrayed by Silvers. This decision disrupts Zee’s criminal alliances and draws the scrutiny of Sy’s determined detective, setting off a high-stakes game of cat and mouse in the heart of Paris.
The original The Killer followed an assassin’s quest to atone for his past by financing a singer’s eye surgery, a narrative that has been skillfully updated for modern audiences. Check out the first look images below.
