A24 has released character posters for “MaXXXine,” the third installment in Ti West’s horror trilogy, starring the franchise’s leading actress, Mia Goth.
The journey of “MaXXXine” follows the success of the first movie, “X,” which premiered at SXSW in 2022, and its sequel, “Pearl.” Goth, recognized as the franchise’s main scream queen, reprises her role as Maxine Minx from “X.” Co-written by Goth and West, the plot unfolds six years after the events of “X,” with Maxine pursuing fame as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.
Official synopsis reads, “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. However, as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Los Angeles, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.” MaXXXine will be released in theaters July 5.
Also starring in the horror is Giancarlo Esposito as Teddy, Maxine’s agent, Moses Sumney as Leon, a video store clerk and Maxine’s best friend. Kevin Bacon will portray Private Investigator John Labat, Elizabeth Debicki joins as Director Elizabeth Bender. Bobby Cannavale will play Detective Ben Torres, Michelle Monaghan will play Detective Marianne Williams, and Lilly Collins will play actress Molly, and Halsey will play Tabby Martin.
The retro teaser for “MaXXXine” hints at a thrilling narrative that blends horror and suspense. Watch the trailer and get into the first look images.
The Independence Day release strategy has proven successful for A24 in the past, notably with Ari Aster’s “Midsommar.” Other genre films set to go wide during the summer holiday include “Despicable Me 4,” “Possum Trot,” and the action-packed “Kill.”
With a production team that includes A24, Jacob Jaffke, West, Goth, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss, “MaXXXine” is anticipated to captivate audiences and add to the success of its predecessors. The combined global gross of “X” and “Pearl” has reached close to $25 million.
Ti West has hinted at a possible fourth film, expressing, “There is this one weird idea that I have that is kind of… if I explained it, it would make sense. But we’ll see what happens. Let’s get this movie done first, see if people like it. Then we’ll go from there.”
