Jabari Banks, Benedict Wong and Callina Liang to Star in Luce writer, JC Lee’s directorial debut Bad Genius. The film is an English-language remake of the 2017 hit Thai film Chalard Games Goeng (Bad Genius).

According to the filmmakers, the adaptation is “a high-stakes, high-octane thriller about a diverse group of young people who team up to fight the system of injustice and inequity and take down the rigged academic institutions around them.”

The original “Bad Genius” was written and directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya and produced by Thai film studio GDH 559 Company Limited. The movie debuted at No. 1 at the Thai box office, becoming the highest-grossing Thai film of the year and the most internationally successful Thai film ever.

Lee and Julius Onah, who directed “Luce,” have collaborated on the script for the English-language remake of “Bad Genius.”

Lee expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “I am so excited to share a new take on what was already a wildly successful and remarkable film. I can’t wait to work with this fantastic, innovative group of artists, drawing on our diverse array of real-world experiences to make a film as thrilling and fun as the original.”

The upcoming movie is being produced by Picturestart and Picture Perfect Federation. It is being financed by Mallory Edens’ Little Ray Media, is expected to begin production in May.

Erik Feig and Jessica Switch will produce the movie via the Picturestart banner, alongside Patrick Wachsberger and Ashley Stern from Picture Perfect Federation, while Little Ray Media will finance the production. The film has secured top-flight international distribution partners outside of the US.
