Jonathan Majors has landed his next major film role, signing on to star in Dinner at Nick’s, a new political thriller written and directed by Barbershop franchise creator Mark Brown.
Set in the tense aftermath of the 2024 presidential election, the film unfolds over the course of a single dinner gathering between seven longtime friends divided by politics, ideology, and generational perspectives.
According to the official synopsis, the story follows a group of Black Democrats and Black Republicans who come together hoping to process the election results over food, drinks, and conversation. What begins as a seemingly intimate evening quickly spirals into emotionally charged debates surrounding race, gender, political identity, and cultural divisions.
As old wounds resurface and friendships are pushed to the brink, the gathering evolves into what the filmmakers describe as a “pressure cooker” scenario where civil discourse gives way to escalating tensions and ultimately political violence.
The film will be produced by Manny Halley, Jonah Hirsch, and AJ Munoz, with production expected to begin this summer.
The project marks another high-profile role for Majors as he continues rebuilding his acting career following his 2023 misdemeanor assault conviction, which led to his departure from several major studio projects, including Marvel Studios’ planned future with Kang the Conqueror.
Majors has recently attached himself to several independent films, including the supernatural revenge thriller Merciless from director Martin Villeneuve and the Harlem-set action thriller True Threat from filmmaker Gerard McMurray.
He also recently made headlines after a reported on-set accident occurred during production on an upcoming action film backed by The Daily Wire and producer Dallas Sonnier. According to reports, Majors and co-star JC Kilcoyne accidentally fell through an unsecured glass window while filming a stunt sequence. The incident became part of a larger controversy surrounding alleged safety concerns and labor disputes connected to the production.
Still, Dinner at Nick’s appears positioned to lean into timely conversations surrounding political division, identity, and the increasingly fractured state of discourse within America — particularly within Black communities often treated as politically monolithic.
