After a long wait of more than two decades, fans of the 2002 movie Juwanna Mann may be happy to learn that a Juwanna Mann sequel is reportedly in the works. Actor Miguel A. Núñez Jr., who starred in the original film as Jamal Jefferies, recently revealed the exciting news in an interview with TMZ. The first movie followed Jamal, a professional basketball player who resorts to dressing up as a woman named Juwanna Mann to join a professional women’s basketball league after being dropped by his team due to his controversial behavior. The charade ends up helping him become a better person, and the sequel is expected to take the story further.

However, the project has faced some obstacles, given the potentially problematic nature of the original plot in today’s cultural climate. Núñez admitted that it was “complicated” to get the ball rolling on the sequel, but he reassured fans that they are currently working on a story that will not offend the WNBA or the LGBTQ+ community. While the actor did not reveal any specific plot details, he did say that they are bringing in real-life basketball stars, just like in the first movie. He even mentioned NBA star Draymond Green as someone who is lobbying to get a spot in the sequel.

Juwanna Mann was directed by Jesse Vaughan and written by Bradley Allenstein. Along with Núñez in the lead role, the movie starred Vivica A. Fox, Kevin Pollak, Tommy Davidson, Kim Wayans, Ginuwine, and Kimberly “Lil’ Kim” Jones. It remains to be seen when the sequel will start filming or when it will be released, but fans of the original movie can rest easy knowing that Juwanna Mann 2 is on the horizon.
