Netflix is officially lighting the fuse on Kathryn Bigelow’s next explosive thriller.
The Oscar-winning director behind The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty returns with A House of Dynamite, a politically-charged White House drama set for a limited theatrical release this October, followed by a global streaming debut on October 24.
Starring Idris Elba, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Greta Lee, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Jonah Hauer-King, and Jason Clarke, the high-stakes thriller follows the U.S. response after an anonymous missile is launched at the country with no immediate claim of responsibility.
The Official Logline:
When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.
The film is already being positioned as one of Netflix’s top contenders for the upcoming awards season and marks Bigelow’s first feature since 2017’s Detroit.

A Return to High-Stakes Political Thrillers
Bigelow, who made history in 2010 as the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director, is once again tapping into the visceral, high-pressure terrain that defined her earlier work. Known for her unflinching approach to modern conflict (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), this new chapter finds her exploring the tension between power, responsibility, and fear on American soil.
Netflix’s Stacked Fall Slate
A House of Dynamite is part of an ambitious lineup of fall releases from Netflix, including:
- Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein
- Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly
- Edward Berger’s Ballad of a Small Player
- Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
- Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague
With high-profile talent in front of and behind the camera, and subject matter that’s both timely and thrilling, A House of Dynamite is already shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated releases.
