Kiersey Clemons has been cast in the lead role of Tayarisha Poe’s film The Young Wife. Sheryl Lee Ralph, Brandon Michael Hall, Kelly Marie Tran, Aida Osman, and Leon Bridges (who will make his acting debut) have been cast. Michaela Watkins, Judith Light, Aya Cash, Lukita Maxwell, Sandy Honig, Connor Paolo, and Jon Rudnitsky round out the cast.
Poe wrote and is directing the film that is said to be a new take on “the wedding film.”
The Young Wife follows “a woman (Clemons) grappling with the meaning of love and commitment in the face of an uncertain and tumultuous world. A sunny day panic attack and a wholly new take on the wedding film, the movie follows her over the course of her ‘non-wedding’ day.”

The Young Wife is Poe’s second feature film, her first feature was Selah and the Spades. She also wrote and directed the high school coming-of-age drama, which was released on Prime Video in 2019.
The Young Wife will be produced by Anne Carey, executive produced by Amy Nauiokas, and co-produced by Rebecca Choi for Archer Gray with Ashley Fox serving as an executive producer for FilmNation. The film is fully financed by FilmNation with Ashley Fox serving as executive producer for the company.
Principal photography has begun recently on The Young Wife in Savannah, GA.
