Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover are currently working on a new project within the Star Wars universe. Instead of a television series as initially reported, the project has been confirmed as a “Lando” movie by Lucasfilm. This development comes after the Glover brothers were brought in to replace Justin Simien as the writers.

Stephen Glover first dropped the news of a “Lando” movie on a recent appearance on the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast, telling the host, “It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.” That’s all the info Stephen could provide. Lucasfilm confirmed the news afterwards.

The series-now-turned-movie, which has been in development by Lucasfilm since it was announced during Disney Investor Day in December 2020, will focus on the charismatic smuggler, Lando Calrissian.

Donald Glover, famous for his role as Lando Calrissian in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” expressed his interest in reprising the character in a GQ interview and emphasized that it would have to be done “the right way.” With his involvement in writing the script, fans can anticipate seeing him return as the charismatic smuggler Lando Calrissian in this upcoming project.

The Glover brothers have an impressive track record, including successful collaborations on projects such as “Atlanta” and “Guava Island.” Their involvement in this Star Wars project adds excitement to the anticipation surrounding one of the franchise’s beloved characters.

The involvement of the Glover brothers was initially kept low-key, as they signed on to the project well before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, and no work has been performed on the series since the writers went on strike on May 2.

While “Solo: A Star Wars Story” did not achieve massive box office numbers, the film was far from a flop, grossing $392 million worldwide. Despite the studio not showing immediate interest in a sequel, there has always been excitement around the prospect of a spinoff series centered around Lando.

In an interview with GQ in April, Donald Glover spoke about the possibility of reprising the role of Lando Calrissian, expressing his interest in returning to the character. However, he emphasized that it would have to be done “the right way” and that he would love to portray Lando again if the circumstances were ideal.

The character of Lando Calrissian was originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.” Donald Glover first brought the character to life in Ron Howard’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” which served as a prequel to the original trilogy.
