The first trailer for Man on Fire has officially arrived, giving audiences a gritty and emotionally charged look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy in the upcoming Netflix reimagining of the iconic story.
Released by Netflix, the teaser introduces Abdul-Mateen as a visibly worn-down Creasy—disheveled, battle-scarred, and still dangerous—signaling a version of the character that leans deeper into trauma, survival, and redemption than ever before.
Abdul-Mateen II, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, steps into a role long associated with heavyweight performances, bringing a more psychological and extended character study to Creasy’s world. The series is inspired by A.J. Quinnell’s Man on Fire novels and draws primarily from the first two books, expanding the narrative far beyond the structure of the 2004 film.
At its core, the story follows Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary living with severe PTSD who is attempting to rebuild his life after years of violence. But when a new mission pulls him back into a world of danger, he is forced to confront both external threats and the unresolved trauma he has spent years trying to outrun.
The series comes from showrunner Kyle Killen (Halo), with Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) directing the first two episodes. Caple Jr. also executive produces alongside Abdul-Mateen II and a wide slate of producers across New Regency and Chernin Entertainment.
The cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Billie Boullet, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor.
For many viewers, John Creasy remains closely tied to Denzel Washington’s 2004 performance in Tony Scott’s film adaptation, a role that cemented the character as one of modern cinema’s most emotionally complex antiheroes. This new series, however, shifts the lens—expanding Creasy’s internal struggle across seven episodes and allowing space to explore his psychological descent and path toward redemption.
The trailer also teases a broader narrative framework, including Creasy’s relationship with a teenager named Poe Rayburn, who becomes central to the events that pull him back into violence.
Man on Fire is set to premiere April 30, 2026 on Netflix.
