Matthew Law and Y’lan Noel to Lead Courtney A. Kemp & Tani Marole’s Netflix Heist Series ‘Nemesis’

Courtney A. Kemp is back in her crime drama bag, and this time, she’s teaming up with Tani Marole for a brand-new thriller at Netflix. Under Kemp’s overall deal with the streamer, Nemesis marks the duo’s first project together—an action-packed heist series that promises to flip the genre on its head.

The series has tapped Matthew Law (Abbott Elementary, Ahsoka) and Y’lan Noel (Lady in the Lake, Insecure) as its two leads, with an ensemble that includes Power alums Domenick Lombardozzi (Tulsa King) and Jonnie Park (Quiz Lady), plus Cleopatra Coleman (Black Rabbit, Clipped), Tre Hale (All-American, Platonic), and Ariana Guerra (CSI: Vegas, Helstrom).

At its core, Nemesis is a battle of wits and wills: an expert criminal versus a brilliant detective, each hell-bent on outmaneuvering the other. Noel steps into the role of Coltrane Wilder, a master thief with a knack for the impossible, while Law plays Isaiah Stiles, the cop determined to take him down. What begins as a high-stakes heist thriller soon unravels into a deeper exploration of loyalty, survival, and the fine line between right and wrong.

Rounding out the cast, Cleopatra Coleman plays Ebony Wilder, Coltrane’s wife, while Tre Hale portrays his right-hand man, Darren “Stro” Stroman. On the law enforcement side, Ariana Guerra takes on the role of LAPD detective Yvette Cruz. Meanwhile, Lombardozzi and Park step into the mix as Dave Cerullo and getaway driver Chris Choi, respectively.

Netflix’s VP of Studio Scripted Series, Nne Ebong, teased what’s in store on Tudum:
“Viewers are in for a ride with Nemesis, Courtney and Tani’s bold take on the crime drama genre. Courtney’s shows have proven to dominate culture and conversation, and it’s exciting to have this be the first project from our creative partnership.”

Kemp and Marole are crafting a series that blends explosive action with complex character dynamics. “Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix—specific in location, but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty versus self-preservation,” Kemp shared. “We are grateful to Bela, Peter, Jinny, and Nne for their support, keeping this production in Los Angeles and getting local crews back to work.”

Adding to the excitement, legendary director Mario Van Peebles (Power Book III: Raising Kanan) is set to direct and executive produce the first two episodes, ensuring Nemesis carries the same grit and intensity that made Power a cultural phenomenon.

With an all-star cast, a powerhouse creative team, and a fresh spin on the heist genre, Nemesis is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most thrilling new series. No release date yet, but best believe this one is already on our radar.
