Hulu just gave us our first look at Mid-Century Modern, the upcoming multi-cam comedy from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, with a little extra sparkle from Ryan Murphy. Mark your calendars—this one lands March 28.
The series stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham as three longtime friends—gentlemen of a certain age—who decide to shake up their golden years by moving in together in Palm Springs after an unexpected loss. Of course, no sitcom would be complete without a meddling but fabulous presence, and that’s where the late, great Linda Lavin comes in. Mid-Century Modern marks her final TV role as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny’s sharp-tongued mother, ensuring that even in retirement, no one is truly off the hook.
If the trailer is any indication, the show is bringing big laughs with its quick wit, opulent setting, and a core message that chosen family will always keep you in check—even if it means reminding you to get your neck done.
Alongside Lane, Bomer, Graham, and Lavin, the show boasts an enviable guest star lineup, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Judd Hirsch, Richard Kind, Pamela Adlon, Vanessa Bayer, Kimberly Coles, Stephanie Koenig, Billie Lourd, Esther Moon Wu, Jaime Moyer, Cheri Oteri, Rhea Perlman, and Zane Phillips.
James Burrows, the sitcom legend behind Cheers, Frasier, and Will & Grace, directed the pilot in front of a live studio audience—an energy Mutchnick and Kohan say was electric enough to get Hulu on board with a series order last August. Lane and Bomer are also pulling double duty as executive producers, with Burrows directing multiple episodes.
Ten episodes of Mid-Century Modern drop on Hulu March 28. Get ready for a little Palm Springs glamour, a lot of sharp-tongued humor, and a reminder that no matter how fabulous you are, your besties will always tell you the truth—whether you like it or not.
