QC Entertainment, the powerhouse behind hits like Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, is wrapping up production in Victoria, BC, on their latest chilling project, The Casket Girls. This film promises a spine-tingling blend of historical folklore and modern-day horror, and it has quite the ensemble to back it up.
Gabrielle Union takes the lead in this eerie tale, joined by Mike Colter (famously known for his role in Luke Cage). Together, they’re about to face some of New Orleans’ darkest legends. The film’s story is inspired by real-life events from the early 1700s, when a group of young women was sent from France to New Orleans to marry French colonists. These women, who carried small chests or “caskets” with their belongings, were the subject of eerie rumors when a spike in the city’s murder rate followed their arrival. It didn’t take long for locals to blame these women for the mysterious deaths, fearing they were vampires or demons.
The film is set in the present day, where Detective Shay Williams (Union) and her partner Galpin (Colter) are drawn into the mystery when the Casket Girls—trapped for over 300 years in the attic of the Vatican-controlled Ursuline Convent—finally escape. What follows is a tense and bloody cat-and-mouse game as they find themselves trapped in the convent alongside a group of unsuspecting tourists.
With a script co-written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (best known for Night at the Museum), the screenplay has been refined by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) and Justin Dyck, who also directs.
The film’s cast rounds out with a stellar mix of talent. Hazel Bartlett-Sais, Lucia Morris, Ana Pacheco, Talisa Mae Stewart, Haylie Hansen, and Charlotte Kavanagh will portray the mysterious and deadly Casket Girls. The supporting cast includes Raúl Castillo, Matt Frewer, and Thomas Lennon, bringing even more depth to this already captivating story.
Union, who is also an executive producer on the film, will be joined by QC Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield as producers, with Edward H. Hamm Jr. and Jameson Parker rounding out the exec producing team. Casting in the U.S. is being handled by Atomic Honey, with Kris and Kara Casting in Canada.
The Casket Girls promises to be more than just another horror flick—it’s a tale rooted in history, filled with suspense, and brought to life by some of the most talented people in the industry today. As Union leads the charge in this chilling mystery, you won’t want to miss the twists and turns that await.
Keep an eye out for more updates as production continues, and prepare yourself for a story that will make you think twice about what lurks in the shadows of history.
