Myha’la Joins Colman Domingo in Gus Van Sant’s Hostage Thriller 'Dead Man’s Wire'

Gus Van Sant’s latest project, Dead Man’s Wire, just added another rising star to its roster. Myha’la (HBO’s Industry) has officially joined the cast of the hostage thriller, currently filming in Louisville, Kentucky. Based on a shocking true story, the film explores a harrowing 1977 standoff that gripped the nation.

The story follows Anthony G. “Tony” Kiritsis, a desperate former real estate developer who took Richard O. Hall, the president of Meridian Mortgage Company, hostage with a sawed-off shotgun wired to his own neck—a setup known as a “dead man’s wire.” Kiritsis demanded $5 million, no legal prosecution, and a personal apology, all while the world watched in real-time.

Myha’la joins an already stacked cast that includes Colman Domingo, Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu), Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things), Cary Elwes (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), and John Robinson (Elephant). Domingo plays a radio announcer who becomes a lifeline for Kiritsis, guiding him through the crisis. “This guy was just in dire straits, holding people hostage and speaking to a radio announcer,” Domingo explained. “That’s the only person he felt like he could communicate with. He’d listened to him every day, and I sort of guide him not to kill people.”

The script, written by Austin Kolodney, marks Van Sant’s first feature film since 2018’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot. The project is backed by a powerhouse producing team that includes Cassian Elwes (Mudbound), Joel David Moore (Bride Hard), Sam Pressman (The Crow), and Mark Amin (Good Kill). WME Independent is handling world sales.

Myha’la’s career continues to climb, with standout performances in season three of HBO’s Industry and supporting roles in Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind for Netflix and A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. Joining the ensemble cast of Dead Man’s Wire solidifies her place among Hollywood’s rising talent.

Looking ahead, Domingo will reprise his Emmy-winning role in HBO’s Euphoria when production finally resumes on its third season. He’s also set to star in Steven Spielberg’s next sci-fi film, which he described as “one of the most beautiful scripts about humanity” he’s ever encountered.
