Natasha Rothwell is set to bring a viral TikTok series to the small screen. Rothwell has acquired the rights to “Who TF Did I Marry?,” a hit series created by Tareasa “Reesa Teesa” Johnson, and will not only star in the adaptation but also serve as an executive producer.
Johnson’s TikTok series, which has garnered over 450 million views, dives into the turbulent relationship she had with her ex-husband, whom she labels a pathological liar. The videos reveal shocking deceptions, including false claims about his education, financial misconduct, and infidelity. Despite the series’ widespread popularity, Johnson’s ex-husband has publicly denied the allegations.
Rothwell’s Big Hattie Productions secured the adaptation rights, marking a significant project for the production company, which has recently expanded by bringing on Mary Sayama McHenry as the director of development. McHenry, who has a background with CBS TV Studios and Get Lifted Film Company, is expected to bring valuable experience to the project.
The TV adaptation news arrives ahead of the September 13 premiere of Rothwell’s upcoming Hulu comedy series, “How to Die Alone.” Additionally, Rothwell will reprise her Emmy-nominated role in the anticipated third season of “The White Lotus.”
Since the viral success of her TikTok series, Tareasa Johnson has seen her own career rise, signing with CAA and gaining representation from attorney Omara Harris. The series, consisting of 50 videos totaling over eight hours, has earned Johnson over 3 million followers in just two weeks. It details various jaw-dropping claims against her ex-husband, including fabricated stories about playing football at San Diego State University, asking for money under false pretenses, and having discrepancies in his social insurance number.
Despite Johnson’s detailed accounts in the series, her ex-husband, whom she refers to as “Legion” but was later identified by fans as Jerome McCoy, has refuted her claims publicly.
The acquisition of “Who TF Did I Marry?” follows a competitive bidding process, underscoring the series’ massive appeal and potential as a television show. Rothwell, who is repped by CAA and Edna Cowan Management, continues to make her mark in the industry not only as an actress but also as a creator and producer, with this latest project set to add to her expanding portfolio of work.
