The beloved Indianapolis family sitcom, “The Upshaws,” is set to conclude with a seventh and final installment. This final part will consist of 12 episodes and will air following the release of Part 6 in early 2025.
Creators and executive producers Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to wrap up the series on their terms. “We are truly grateful to Netflix for giving us this final season to once again bring the warmth and humor that we’re known for, providing some closure to our Upshaws family,” Hicks shared with Tudum. Sykes, who also stars in the series, added, “A heartfelt thanks to Netflix for letting us send off The Upshaws with this final season. We are excited to give the show and the fans a proper farewell.”
“The Upshaws” follows Bennie Upshaw (Mike Epps), a well-meaning but often chaotic mechanic striving to support his family. This includes his wife Regina (Kim Fields), their two young daughters (Khali Spraggins and Journey Christine), their eldest son (Jermelle Simon), and Bennie’s teenage son Kelvin (Diamond Lyons) from a previous relationship. Additionally, Bennie contends with his sharp-tongued sister-in-law Lucretia, played by Sykes. Despite the ups and downs, the Upshaw family remains determined to succeed together.
Part 5, which aired in April, concluded with Lucretia and her fiancé Frank (Lamont Thompson) opting to move to Atlanta to escape family interference. Upon their return home, Bennie and Regina find that Kelvin’s mother, Tasha, has moved into their basement. In Part 6, scheduled for early next year, the family will face new jobs, bigger dreams, health challenges, and major life surprises, all while relying on their familial love to get through.
Netflix has renewed “The Upshaws” for a 12-episode final season, making it one of the longer-running multi-camera comedies on the platform. With a total of 62 episodes, it follows in the footsteps of “The Ranch” and “Fuller House.”
Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes created “The Upshaws” and serve as showrunners. Alongside Mike Epps, the series is executive produced by Page Hurwitz, Niles Kirchner, Annie Levine & Jon Emerson, and Mark Alton Brown.
As the series prepares to conclude, fans can look forward to a fitting and heartfelt goodbye to the Upshaw family, who have brought warmth, humor, and resilience to the screen.
