Netflix Sets Premiere Date for Mara Brock Akil’s Forever, Unveils First Look + Re-Watch Teaser

Netflix has officially announced that Forever, the highly anticipated drama series from Mara Brock Akil, will premiere globally on May 8, 2025. Alongside the premiere date, the streamer has released the first official images and teaser for the modern-day reimagining of Judy Blume’s 1975 novel.

Set in Los Angeles, 2018, Forever follows the love story of two Black teens, Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.), as they navigate romance, identity, and the complexities of being each other’s firsts.

The series stars Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Lawrence Winans III, Niles Fitch, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Adriyan Rae, Paigion Walker, Xavier Mills, and E’myri Crutchfield.

Brock Akil, who serves as the showrunner, has described Blume’s work as a major influence on her own writing. “She was one of the first writers I read that dared to be honest about the human condition in young people, and you can see traces of her writing style within my own,” she shared with TUDUM.com.

Executive producers include Mara Brock Akil, Judy Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Erika Harrison, Sara White, Regina King, Reina King, Shana C. Waterman, and Anthony Hemingway, with Hemingway directing multiple episodes.

With its fresh take on a beloved novel, Forever promises to be an epic and intimate story of first love, set against the dreamlike backdrop of Los Angeles. Watch the first teaser and see the newly released images below
