Omar Miller Joins the 3rd Annual Compton Film Festival for a Juneteenth Weekend Celebration

The 3rd Annual Compton Film Festival brings independent film, community, and culture to Compton College over Juneteenth weekend.

The Compton Film Festival returns for its third year on June 20-21, 2026, at Compton College, and actor and producer Omar Miller is among the featured guests confirmed for the weekend.

This year’s theme, “Unapologetically Free,” is timed around Juneteenth weekend and runs through every corner of the programming. Across two days, attendees can expect a diverse slate of narrative, documentary, short, and experimental films, alongside filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, and community-focused events designed to connect emerging creators with working professionals from the industry.

“When we established The Compton Film Festival our goal was to build an enduring film institution that would both entertain and educate by exposing multi-generational audiences to an often-overlooked aspect of American culture,” said founder Mark Richardson.

The festival continues to grow as a platform rooted in Compton’s creative community. Compton-born filmmaker and 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards head writer Jared “J.” Snow is part of the team, along with Vice President of Operations Torrey Antonio Crowe, who described the festival’s mission simply: “Having a role in The Compton Film Festival allows me to build bridges in the industry, stay connected to the arts, and bring like-minded individuals together from my community.”

As for Miller, he arrives at the festival with serious momentum behind him. If you caught Ryan Coogler’s Sinners alongside Michael B. Jordan, you already know he showed up. The film made Oscar history, and Miller’s presence in it was a reminder of what he has always brought to the screen since his breakout in 8 Mile. Over two decades his credits have ranged from Transformers and Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. Anna to HBO’s Ballers and Apple TV+’s The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey with Samuel L. Jackson, the latter earning him an NAACP Image Award nomination. Off screen he runs Big Easy Productions and hosts the O-ZONE podcast and travel series Weekend Fix. He will participate in Q&As and panels throughout the weekend.
