Peacock Picks Up Mockumentary Comedy 'Mr. Throwback' Starring and Executive Produced By Steph Curry

Peacock has officially greenlit the mockumentary comedy series “Mr. Throwback,” starring NBA star Steph Curry and actor Adam Pally. The announcement was made during the Television Critics Association (TCA) event, where Peacock also revealed orders for three drama series.

Originally slated for development at NBC, “Mr. Throwback” found its new home on Peacock, aligning with the network’s recent focus on cost-effective multi-camera comedies. The show, created by David Caspe, the mastermind behind “Happy Endings,” follows the journey of a struggling memorabilia dealer (Pally) seeking redemption by reconnecting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA star Steph Curry.

Peacock, known for popular mockumentaries like “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation,” continues to expand its comedy offerings with “Mr. Throwback.” Caspe, along with writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman, will serve as executive producers alongside Pally, Curry, and Unanimous’ Erick Peyton.

Produced by Universal Television in association with Curry’s Unanimous Media, “Mr. Throwback” marks the first project under Curry’s global talent partnership with NBCUniversal. The partnership, established in 2021, includes first-look development deals with Universal Studio Group for scripted and unscripted TV projects and DreamWorks Animation for family content.

Steph Curry, transitioning from behind the camera to a central on-screen role, expressed excitement about the upcoming series. The Golden State Warriors point guard launched Unanimous Media in 2018, responsible for ABC’s game show “Holey Moley” and Apple’s docuseries “Underrated.”

Adam Pally, known for his roles in “Happy Endings” and the upcoming live-action/animated Sonic spinoff “Knuckles,” adds to the star-studded cast. Meanwhile, David Caspe’s impressive track record includes creating “Happy Endings,” “Black Monday,” and contributing to YouTube’s “Champaign ILL” and Netflix’s “Blockbuster.”

With the mockumentary format gaining popularity, “Mr. Throwback” joins the ranks of Peacock’s diverse content offerings, promising a unique blend of humor, sports, and redemption.
