Updated with new trailer:
Disney+ has officially announced the premiere date, December 20, for “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series, adapted from Rick Riordan’s beloved book series.
In a newly released teaser, viewers get a first look at characters Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood, portrayed by Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri, respectively.
The teaser sets the stage with a voiceover from Virginia Kull as Percy’s mother, Sally Jackson, affirming the reality of the Greek gods and half-bloods that have been part of their stories. The glimpse includes scenes from Camp Half-Blood, Percy’s journey to Olympus, encounters with mythological creatures, and more.
Glynn Turman, playing Mr. Brunner aka Chiron, leaves viewers intrigued with the line, “Percy Jackson. We’ve been expecting you,” as the teaser concludes.

The inaugural season centers around the storyline of the first book, “The Lightning Thief.” As 12-year-old Percy (Scobell) grapples with his newfound powers, the mighty sky god Zeus (portrayed by the late Lance Reddick) accuses him of stealing his lightning bolt. Assisted by Grover and Annabeth, Percy embarks on an epic quest to recover the bolt and restore balance to Olympus.
Unlike the previous film adaptations, Riordan has been intricately involved in shaping the series. He co-wrote the first two episodes alongside fellow executive producer Jon Steinberg (known for “Black Sails” and “The Old Man”), while the first two episodes were directed by James Bobin.
The star-studded guest cast includes Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Megan Mullally as Alecto/Mrs. Dodds, Toby Stephens as Poseidon, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus/Mr. D, Jay Duplass as Hades, Glynn Turman as Chiron/Mr. Brunner, Adam Copeland as Ares, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa, Olivea Morton as Nancy Bobofit, Suzanne Cryer as Echidna, Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano, and Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus.
The show is helmed by showrunners Steinberg and Dan Shotz, with executive production by Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Bert Salke, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Monica Owusu-Breen, Anders Engström, and Jet Wilkinson. Filming concluded earlier in the year, preceding the current writers and actors strikes.
Mark your calendars for December 20, when the series will kick off with two episodes, followed by weekly releases. Watch the teaser for Percy Jackson and the Olympians below.
