Disney Junior’s ‘Ariel’ Animated Series: Taye Diggs, Amber Riley, Mykal-Michelle Harris to Voice Iconic Characters

Just months after the release of the live-action “Little Mermaid” movie starring Halle Bailey, Disney Junior has unveiled the cast that will breathe life into the beloved underwater characters once more in the upcoming animated series, “Disney Junior’s Ariel.”

On Friday, August 18, Disney Junior announced the exciting lineup for the highly anticipated series. Eleven-year-old actress Mykal-Michelle Harris, known for her role in “Raven’s Home,” will lend her voice to the title character, bringing Ariel’s enchanting persona to the screen. Joining her are acclaimed actors Taye Diggs and Amber Riley, who will voice the characters of King Triton and Ursula, respectively.

Joining the impressive cast are kid actors Elizabeth Phoenix Caro and Cruz Flateau, who will voice Ariel’s friends Lucia and Fernie, respectively. Gracen Newton will take on the role of Ariel’s loyal fish companion, Flounder.

“Disney Junior’s Ariel” promises to deliver a fresh and captivating take on the cherished characters, exploring new adventures and breathing new life into the iconic story. Set to debut in 2024 on Disney Junior and Disney+, the series is sure to capture the hearts of audiences young and old, as Ariel and her friends embark on exciting journeys beneath the waves.

Taye Diggs, a seasoned performer of both stage and screen, gained prominence with his Broadway debut in the original cast of “Rent” in 1996. His talent and versatility have led him to numerous roles in television shows, films, and musical productions. Diggs has previously showcased his vocal skills as a guest actor on the Disney Junior series “Doc McStuffins” and “Elena of Avalor.”

Amber Riley, renowned for her role as Mercedes Jones on the hit TV series “Glee,” has a rich history in both acting and singing. Notably, she originated the role of Effie White in the London West End production of “Dreamgirls” in 2016, earning the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for best actress in a musical. Riley’s connection to “The Little Mermaid” franchise traces back to her involvement in ABC’s “The Little Mermaid Live!” in 2019, where she portrayed the Emcee introducing the Daughters of Triton.
