Rome Flynn Among Four Set to Star in Armani Ortiz’s One-Take Musical Feature Otra — Tyler Perry Executive Producing

Production is underway on Otra, a bold new Latino musical shot entirely in a single continuous take, marking the solo directorial debut of longtime Tyler Perry collaborator Armani Ortiz. Filming is currently taking place in both Atlanta and Puerto Rico.

Leading the cast are Godfather of Harlem and How to Get Away with Murder star Rome Flynn, The Moodys and Animal Control actress María Gabriela de Faría, rising talents Flor Delis Alicea and Aria Celeste Castillo, both of whom bring experience in television, dance, and performance that align with the film’s emotionally immersive and visually ambitious concept.

At its heart, Otra is a genre-bending musical that blends personal narrative, cultural heritage, and experimental filmmaking into one seamless journey—literally. With the entire film captured in a single take, it pushes the boundaries of traditional storytelling while spotlighting Latinx voices and artistry in an unapologetically fresh way.

The project is a full-circle moment for Ortiz, who steps into the spotlight after over a decade working alongside Tyler Perry. From acting and studio work to co-directing Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, Ortiz has long been seen as a creative force to watch. Now, with Perry serving as executive producer, the baton is being officially passed.

The film is produced by Ortiz, Daniel Etzioni, and Deance Wyatt, with Asante White as lead producer.

Flynn continues his hot streak across TV and film, recently appearing in Apple TV+’s anthology Side Quest and joining Kerry Washington in Imperfect Women. He currently stars as Frank Lucas in Godfather of Harlem—a role made famous by Denzel Washington in American Gangster—acting opposite Forest Whitaker.

De Faría, a Venezuelan actress known for her standout roles in The Moodys, Deadly Class, and Animal Control, will also appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. She’s carved out a career spanning action thrillers, supernatural dramas, and sharp ensemble comedies.

Alicea, a trained actress and dancer originally from Puerto Rico, brings an early start in salsa competitions and musical theater to the screen. After relocating to the mainland U.S. for acting school, she made her feature debut in Love the Skin You’re In, directed by Kenn Michael.

Castillo, an Afro-Latina actress and dancer with credits in Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, NCIS: New Orleans, and School of Rock, continues to advocate for Afro-Latina representation in entertainment through her work both on-screen and behind the scenes.

With its daring format, rich cultural layers, and powerhouse team in front of and behind the camera, Otra is shaping up to be more than a film—it’s a statement.

Stay tuned for more details as this one-of-a-kind musical prepares to make its way to audiences.
