The Russo family is casting one final spell. Disney has released the official trailer for the four-part finale event of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and it brings back two of the most beloved characters from the original series. Jennifer Stone returns as Harper Finkle and Gregg Sulkin returns as Mason Greyback, reuniting with Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo for what promises to be an emotional sendoff.
The finale event premieres Tuesday, August 4 on Disney Channel with a four-episode marathon beginning at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT, with all episodes streaming on Disney+ the following day.
The trailer picks up in the aftermath of Season 2’s dramatic finale, in which Billie discovered that Alex Russo is her mother just before Alex disappeared through a rift. Billie, still reeling, learns that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father. As the Russo family bands together, they realize that only their combined power can defeat the evil threatening them. The trailer offers the first footage of Alex waking up disoriented in an unfamiliar apartment, followed by a reunion with Mason and Harper that will send fans into a spiral.
In addition to returning as Alex Russo in multiple episodes, Gomez makes her directorial debut helming the premiere episode of the finale. Brandon Micheal Hall joins the cast as Damien Penwulf, Billie’s previously unseen father. The returning guest cast also includes Maria Canals-Barrera as Theresa Russo, Ramon Reed as Silas Evilini and Tobias Jelinek as Lord Morsus.
The series stars David Henrie as Justin Russo, Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers alongside Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez and Henrie.
The revival has been a genuine hit since its debut, amassing over 101 million views on Disney Channel’s YouTube channel and ranking among the top five titles across kids 6 to 11, teens 12 to 17 and adults 18 to 24 at launch. The original Wizards of Waverly Place, created by Todd Greenwald, ran from 2007 to 2012 and followed three siblings balancing teenage life with magical training as they competed to become the family’s sole wizard.
All episodes of Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Disney+ ahead of the four-part finale, which arrives August 4 on Disney Channel and August 5 on Disney+.
