Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming limited series, “Griselda,” starring Sofia Vergara as the notorious “Cocaine Godmother” Griselda Blanco. The six-episode drama, set to premiere on January 25, explores Blanco’s rise to power in the 1970s-80s Miami drug trade.
Inspired by real events, the series is a collaboration between Vergara, who also serves as an executive producer, and the team behind Narcos, with director Andrés Baiz at the helm for all six episodes.
Blanco, known widely as “the Godmother,” created one of the most profitable cartels in history. The series delves into her lethal blend of savagery and charm that allowed her to navigate between the dangerous realms of business and family.

The star-studded cast includes Latin music sensation Karol G in her acting debut, alongside Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martín Rodríguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez, and Vanessa Ferlito.
The trailer opens with a gripping court scene where Blanco’s operation is described as “efficient, deadly, and incredibly successful.” As the series unfolds, viewers witness Blanco’s charismatic yet ruthless persona as she masterfully conducts her drug empire.
“This is the country of dreams. We have the power to bring excitement back into their boring lives,” Blanco declares in Spanish, emphasizing the complex dichotomy of her character.
Co-creator Eric Newman describes “Griselda” as a unique rise-and-fall story, blending elements of thrill, emotion, humor, fear, and tragedy. Vergara’s portrayal promises to showcase a different side of the Modern Family alum, revealing the untold story of a woman who achieved unparalleled power, wealth, and respect in the male-dominated world of drug trafficking.
