Starz picked up the unreleased series, Three Women, after it was dropped by Showtime in a major network purge back in February. The show was shopped around to other potential homes including HBO and Amazon before Starz eventually signed on. Three Women is based on Lisa Taddeo’s #1 New York Times bestselling book of the same name. The 10-episode series stars DeWanda Wise, Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, and Gabrielle Creevy.

The show centers around the lives of three American women who find themselves on a collision course towards a transformative new reality.

Sloane (Wise), an entrepreneur who plays by her own rules in the Northeast and is happy in her open marriage until two new partners threaten to disrupt her perfect life. Lina (Gilpin) is an Indiana housewife trapped in a mundane marriage and Maggie (Creevy), a student in North Dakota who accuses her married English teacher of pursuing an inappropriate relationship with her, facing backlash and danger as a result. These women’s stories are tied together by Gia (Woodley), a writer struggling to work through grief after losing her family. In bringing them together and sharing their stories, Gia changes her life forever.

Blair Underwood and John Patrick Amedori also star in the series and features Laura Eason (House of Cards) as showrunner. In addition to Taddeo and Eason’s executive producing roles, the show is produced by Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum. Taddeo, who also wrote the pilot episode, expressed her excitement about the show’s new home at STARZ. She said, “That STARZ will be the home for ‘Three Women’ is not merely right and perfect, but also a force of auspicious change.”

For STARZ, the addition of “Three Women” to their lineup fits in perfectly with their commitment to telling stories by, for, and about women. Alison Hoffman, President of Domestic Networks at STARZ, said, “We are proud to welcome ‘Three Women’ to the STARZ family. The show is anchored by such remarkable talent both in front of and behind the camera and aligns perfectly with our commitment to telling stories by, for and about women.”
