‘Terry McMillan Presents’: Author Terry McMillan Partners with Lifetime for Original Movie Series

Renowned author Terry McMillan has teamed up with Lifetime to executive produce a series of original movies under the banner “Terry McMillan Presents.” Widely acclaimed for her bestsellers like “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” and “Waiting to Exhale,” McMillan’s collaboration with Lifetime will focus on portraying the love and lives of Black women, aligning with the network’s 40th-anniversary celebration.

In a statement, McMillan expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the opportunity to depict the multifaceted nature of women’s experiences authentically. “As women, we can be messy. We can be complicated. We can be so many things,” she remarked. McMillan is no stranger to working with Lifetime, having previously collaborated on the 2014 TV movie “A Day Late and a Dollar Short,” featuring a star-studded cast including Whoopi Goldberg, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Tichina Arnold, and Ving Rhames.

The forthcoming original movies under the “Terry McMillan Presents” label will be unveiled later this year, complete with casting details. Lifetime’s EVP and Head of Programming, Elaine Frontain Bryant, expressed excitement about the collaboration, describing Terry as an “American treasure” with a unique ability to capture the female experience in the pursuit of love and happiness.

McMillan, a New York Times bestselling author with a dozen books to her name, has consistently found success in both literature and film adaptation. From winning the Doubleday New Voices Award and the American Book Award for her debut novel “Mama” to the recent release of “It’s Not All Downhill From Here,” her works continue to resonate with a broad audience.
