The cast of The Comic Shop just got even geekier (in the best way). Indie darling and creator Cheyenne Ewulu has added Khary Payton (The Walking Dead, Teen Titans Go!), Hayley Law (Riverdale, Door Mouse), Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass, iZombie), and JB Blanc (Breaking Bad, Arcane) to the upcoming workplace comedy

Set in a fictional comic book store in Los Angeles, The Comic Shop follows a group of quirky employees trying to keep their business afloat despite corporate takeovers, unhinged customers, and their own hilarious dysfunction. Ewulu leads the cast alongside Zeno Robinson (My Hero Academia, Transformers: EarthSpark), Shanae Cole (Grown-ish), and Grayson Niles (The Party, The Goldbergs).

Payton and Law will appear as guest stars in standout episodes, while Kohli is set to make a special cameo. Blanc plays Kevin, the shop’s perpetually annoyed landlord whose patience wears thin episode by episode.

“These are amazing actors and I’m excited to have them in the show and along for the ride,” said Ewulu. “Filming with them was a dream.”

Directing duties are shared among a stacked lineup of talent, including Dani Fernandez (Ralph Breaks the Internet) and Alanah Pearce (V/H/S/Beyond), both of whom also appear on screen. Additional episodes are helmed by Jalen Blot (ColorCreative’s Find Your People Cohort 2), Tari Wariebi (ColorCreative), and others.

The original theme song is performed by viral rap duo Flyana Boss, adding to the show’s playful, culture-forward energy.

The series, which recently wrapped production and is currently in post, was independently produced under Ewulu’s Awkward Virgo Productions. After raising over $207,000 on Kickstarter, The Comic Shop became one of the highest-funded indie TV projects on the platform to date.

Buzz around The Comic Shop began after its proof-of-concept trailer went viral, rallying support from creators, fans, and industry pros alike. Over 1,700 backers contributed to its successful crowdfunding campaign, which surpassed its goal by nearly 30%.

Though no distribution deal has been officially announced, the series already boasts a built-in audience eagerly awaiting its release.

The Comic Shop is the debut scripted series from Awkward Virgo Productions, founded by Ewulu to champion inclusive, character-first storytelling.
