Netflix Drops Trailer for 'The Electric State' Featuring Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie, Colman Domingo, and More

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for The Electric State, a dystopian sci-fi adventure directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, set to debut on March 14, 2025. Based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, the film is a retro-futuristic take on the 1990s, blending heart, action, and mystery in a robot-inhabited world.

The story follows Michelle, played by Millie Bobby Brown, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society reeling from a failed robot uprising. Robots, once integrated into human life as mascots and cartoon-inspired companions, now exist in exile. Michelle’s world turns upside down when she encounters Cosmo, a robot carrying a link to her younger brother, Christopher, who she believed was dead. Determined to find him, Michelle embarks on a journey across the American Southwest alongside Cosmo and a reluctant ally, Keats, a smuggler portrayed by Chris Pratt. Their mission leads them into the Exclusion Zone, a desolate area where robots live autonomously, uncovering dangers tied to Christopher’s disappearance.

The trailer offers a glimpse into this visually stunning world, narrated by Stanley Tucci’s Ethan Skate, a billionaire tech magnate who distrusts the very robots he profited from. The footage teases both emotional stakes and large-scale action, including flashbacks of the robot uprising and the eerie robot-inhabited landscapes.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci. Robot characters are brought to life by the voices of Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo, and Alan Tudyk. Behind the scenes, the screenplay is penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, known for their work on the Russo brothers’ Avengers films.

With its mix of nostalgia, action, and heartfelt storytelling, The Electric State promises to be a thrilling journey through a retro-future world shaped by both human and robotic conflicts. Watch the trailer now, and mark your calendars for its March 14 release on Netflix.
