Paramount+ has announced the premiere of The Honey Trap: A True Story of Love, Lies, and the FBI, a new feature documentary by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Chris Moukarbel, known for projects like Gaga: Five Foot Two. The film will debut on the Paramount+ with Showtime plan on Friday, December 6, and air at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
This gripping documentary delves into espionage, propaganda, and a dangerous love story centered around Denis Cuspert, also known as Deso Dogg. Cuspert, a Berlin rapper turned MMA fighter, ultimately became a high-profile ISIS recruiter. The narrative unfolds through the perspective of FBI translator Daniela Greene, who was tasked with monitoring Cuspert. Her assignment takes an unexpected turn when her mission to infiltrate his world transforms into a deeply personal and complex relationship. The film sheds light on the collision of power, culture, and individual vulnerability.
Filmmaker Chris Moukarbel reflected on the story’s unique nature, stating, “When people hear the story of Daniella and Denis, they often ask if it’s fiction. In a way, their story lives at the crossroads of military power and entertainment culture.”
Produced by Showtime Studios and Vespucci, The Honey Trap features Moukarbel, Birdie Bischoff, Daniel Turcan, and Johnny Galvin as producers. Executive producers include Ricky Lloyd George, Hans Charles, Karam Ghossein, Emily Dische-Becker, and Nina L. Diaz for Showtime Studios.
Moukarbel, renowned for his work on Me at the Zoo, Banksy Does New York, and Wig, continues to make waves in the documentary world. His most recent project, Cypher, won acclaim at the Tribeca Festival for its inventive storytelling.
Mark your calendars for December 6 to catch The Honey Trap, streaming on Paramount+ and Showtime.
