Comedian Katt Williams is making strides toward becoming a movie mogul, setting his sights on Alabama to realize his vision. Williams has purchased a former military base in the state, with plans to convert the site into a movie studio, as confirmed by his publicist, Amy Sisoyev.
“I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet, but I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama,” Sisoyev shared in an email to AL.com.
Though Williams has kept details under wraps, speculation centers on Fort McClellan in Anniston, where a Cold War-era barracks complex known locally as “Starships” was recently listed for $1.5 million. The expansive property includes 30 concrete buildings spanning three million square feet of indoor space, 10 barracks with 20 rooms each, two gymnasiums, and over 90 acres of flat, usable land.

Connie Alexander of the Luxe Group, which represented the property’s seller, confirmed Williams’ involvement. “The property was purchased through an LLC, but Katt Williams visited frequently during the purchase phase,” she said. “It’s a visionary endeavor, and we’re excited to see how this historic site evolves under his leadership.”
Efforts to reach the McClellan Development Authority, a nonprofit tasked with spurring economic development at the former fort, were unsuccessful.
In a recent GQ interview, Williams revealed his ambitions to emulate moguls like Tyler Perry, expressing the need for more leaders in Black entertainment. “It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry. He can only do so much,” Williams said.
Williams’ plans align with his broader career goals, as he looks to expand his influence beyond stand-up comedy. He was in Alabama earlier this year for his ‘Dark Matter’ tour, performing in cities like Huntsville, Birmingham, and Mobile.
This latest move marks a new chapter for the Emmy-winning comedian, signaling his commitment to creating opportunities in film and entertainment while repurposing a historic site for future innovation.
