Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye will make his leading actor feature film debut in the upcoming untitled film that he wrote and is producing. The project, which is shrouded in mystery, is being directed by Trey Edward Shults, the filmmaker behind “Waves” and “It Comes at Night.” Shults also co-wrote the movie and is executive producing it.

While little details on the project are known, the film has secured a top-notch cast including Jenna Ortega, star of “Wednesday” and “Scream VI,” and Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan from “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”
Tesfaye, Shults, and Reza Fahim co-wrote the script, and Tesfaye is also producing the film alongside Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss, with Ortega and Keoghan serving as executive producers.
Chayse Irvin is handling the cinematography, while composer and producer OPN, real name Daniel Lopatin, will be scoring the film alongside The Weeknd. OPN has previously worked on the scores for “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems,” in which The Weeknd had a cameo role as himself.
In addition to his film project, The Weeknd is also set to star in the upcoming HBO series “The Idol,” which he co-created with “Euphoria’s” Sam Levinson and Fahim.
The untitled film is currently shooting in Los Angeles.
