Tyler Perry is collecting network deals like Pokemon cards. From BET to Prime Video to Netflix, Perry’s empire keeps expanding, and now, A+E Global Media (formerly A+E Networks) is the latest to join his roster.
In a major move, Tyler Perry Studios (TPS) and Pantheon Media Group—which teamed up last year to develop unscripted content—just inked a multi-series development deal with A+E Global Media. The partnership was revealed during A+E’s upfront presentation, where they also rolled out their rebrand.
So what does this mean? Tyler Perry Studios and Pantheon will be creating unscripted shows across multiple genres for Lifetime and A&E. And while they’re keeping details under wraps, multiple series have already been greenlit, with more in the pipeline.
“Tyler Perry’s unique ability to craft stories that deeply connect with audiences is unparalleled,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and head of programming at A&E, Lifetime, and LMN. “We are thrilled to welcome Tyler Perry to the A+E family and cannot wait to see the incredible content TPS and Pantheon will bring to A+E Global Media.”
This deal adds another powerhouse platform to Perry’s ever-growing TV slate. Last year, he extended his deal with BET Media Group, securing renewals for eight of his shows. He also leveled up his Netflix partnership, expanding into scripted television. Now, with A+E in the mix, Perry is stepping further into the unscripted game, bringing his signature storytelling approach to reality-based series.
“A+E Global Media has long set the bar for exceptional nonfiction, and Tyler Perry Studios has mastered audience-driven narratives that resonate on a global scale,” said Pantheon Chairman Steve Michaels. “Partnering with both allows us to push the boundaries of unscripted entertainment.”
On the development side, Antoinetta Stallings, VP of unscripted at Tyler Perry Studios, and LaNeé Griffin, SVP of development and programming at Pantheon, are leading the charge. Expect them to roll out binge-worthy reality, docuseries, and other nonfiction programming that fits the A+E brand.
As for Pantheon Media Group, they’ve been making major moves of their own. Since their rebrand from Asylum Entertainment Group, they’ve acquired stakes in live event specialists Done+Dusted, true crime producers Texas Crew Productions, and indie doc team Ladywell Films, among others.
With Perry’s influence, Pantheon’s industry muscle, and A+E’s commitment to nonfiction storytelling, this partnership is setting up to shake up the unscripted TV space.
So what’s next? The projects are already in development, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see what Perry and his team have cooking. One thing’s for sure—when Tyler Perry moves, Hollywood takes notice.
