Uncoupled is Canceled...Again: Showtime Pulls the Plug on Planned Second Season

Showtime saved Uncoupled after Netflix canceled it then cancels it again.

In a surprising turn of events, Showtime has opted not to move forward with Season 2 of the comedy series “Uncoupled,” originally created by Darren Star of “Emily in Paris” fame and Jeffrey Richman, known for his work on “Modern Family.” Deadline reports that despite efforts to revamp the show to suit Showtime’s preferences, the network has decided to pass on further episodes. Attempts to reach a representative for comment from Showtime were unsuccessful.

The decision marks a reversal just over a year after Showtime rescued the series from cancellation by Netflix following its first season. Showtime had initially planned to redevelop the show to better align with its brand, but after months of work, the network ultimately opted against greenlighting a second season.

Neil Patrick Harris, the star of “Uncoupled,” had previously indicated that filming for Season 2 was slated to begin in early July of the previous year but was delayed due to a Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. Sources had indicated that preparations for Season 2 were well underway, with scripts largely completed, but production plans have now been shelved.

“Uncoupled” follows the story of a gay man navigating single life in New York City after a sudden breakup with his partner of 17 years. The series boasts a talented ensemble cast including Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks, and Marcia Gay Harden.

While Showtime had initially intended for “Uncoupled” to bolster its lineup of culturally diverse content, which includes successful shows like “The L Word” and “The Chi,” the network ultimately decided against proceeding with further seasons of the series.
